I'm back from California and I'm getting all my ranting out in one long thread so you don't have to listen to it under 3 Random Facts or the party thread!
Day 1: Plane ride/Hollywood
Okay, thanks to some fabulous planning on my dad's part (even though I had to wake up WAY too early), we got to California at eight o clock in the morning after two three hour plane rides and a short one hour stop in the Houston airport so we had a whole day to spend in Hollywood. I spent this glorious day hunting Johnny Depp crap like a stalker, and I found Johnny Depp crap! I found his star on the Walk of Fame, his hand- and footprints in front of the Chinese theater, and, thanks to this tour of the star's homes thing we took, his infamous nightclub, the Viper Room, where some actor I've never heard of died of a drug overdose while Johnny was NOT IN THE BUILDING. In other news, my mom took a million pictures of the Hollywood sign (it's a SIGN for Pete's sake!) and my sister and I fantasized about being here for good someday, fueled by singing One Short Day from Wicked a couple million times.
Day 2: Universal Hollywood
You're going to have to wait for a detailed description of all the rides, but here's the gist. We did the best first, which was the Shrek 4-D thing. I got a huge kick out of little ghost-Farquaad, but I sorely missed my beloved Spanish kitty cat. He was NOWHERE in the park. Ever. My sister and I had our pictures taken with the Madagascar penguins, though! My dad and I saw Beetlejuice, too, at one point, but since my sister and my mom were on the Mummy for the second out of three times (I only rode it once and was scared out of my wits for reasons beyond me), I didn't get to see him because he didn't have my mom's camera. Universal was fun, but there were way too many escalators and not enough rides. Still, I hold a special place in my ice cold heart for the employee who told us that they were making a Wicked movie!
Day 3: The 342-Mile Drive to the 17-Mile Drive
After six hours in the car with my dad (I do NOT reccommend that), we rode around Monterey's famous 17-Mile Drive around Pebble Beach. I loved seeing seals all over the place, but my dad's obsession with the trees and the golfing got REALLY annoying after a while.
Day 4: Monterey Bay Aquarium
Sharon, you wouldn't have happened to be at the Aquarium on Monday by any chance, would you? My sister and I spent the whole time looking for fish from Finding Nemo (I got a dollar for actually FINDING a clownfish). She also obsessed over otters and starfish, while I was preoccupied with turtles and penguins, and my dad with the stupid observation deck-- he was looking for seals, he stayed out there almost ALL day, and how many did he find? ONE. ONE measly seal while wasting a whole day of staring at penguins. Still, I did get the coolest blue penguin sweatshirt from the gift shop! Fuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzyyyyyyyyyy....
Day 5: DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, it wasn't just Disneyland. We had ANOTHER 6-hour drive to get there. Still, we got to do everything we wanted (attraction reviews coming soon), including adding Hades and the Siamese Cats to my collection of Disney Villain pins (I orignally only had Jafar and Maleficent)! A word to the wise: NEVER ride Splash Mountain's front row twice in a row when it's pouring rain. EVER.
Day 6: California Adventure
Disney's newest park was by far awesome. I finally got a fabulous attraction of my favorite Disney movie (Aladdin), and dude, Turtle Talk with Crush had me talking like the turtle dude from Finding Nemo, like, all day (not well, I might add).
Day 7: The San Diego Zoo
How many gazelles can one zoo hold and not have any PENGUINS?! A lot of walking in flip-flops, which was very painful, but I did get to learn about a whole bunch of animals I'd never heard of before. My sister and I were looking for animals from Madagascar all day. We found the main four, but the ring tailed lemurs (that's King Julien, people) weren't on display that day!
Day 8: Sea World
Our main mission this day was to A) get drenched and B) Find Nemo. I found Nemo, Dory, Crush (YEAH!), the purple and yellow dude, and the shrimp thingy. And we did get drenched-- river rapids and the front row on the Shamu show are good for that sort of thing
Day 9: The plane ride home... and a terrifying experience
The terrifying experience was that on the way to the airport we got HIT BY A CAR. No one was hurt in either car, but it was really scary and we almost missed our flight! We didn't, and the rest of the day was pretty uneventful.
Well, now you don't have to listen to me ramble about it on the party threads!
