Written by Solle, but too correct (and funny) to not put up. I -did not- Write this
1953: Born to Milton and Clare "Blossom" Elfman.
1960's: In high school with Matthew Bright and a whole lotta black kids. Known as "the quiet psychotic guy". Experiments with radioactive flies and likes to blow up garbage cans with homemade bombs. Discovers Bernard Herrmann. Spends all his money on movies at the Golden Hills Theatre.
1970-ish: Wins obscene amount of money in court after getting rear-ended by a drunk. Travels to Africa, gets stuck in Mali for a couple months, learns to play drums and violin. Goes to France after a while, learns to speak French.
1972: Gets a telegram from his older brother Rick to come back to the US, to join his band, the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.
Still 1972: Goes back to US to find a handful people in bad costumes playing silly chaotic 30's jazz in someone's basement. Decides to become lead singer (and trombonist and fire-breather) of the band. Also gets a job as a waiter because no one's making any money.
1975: Kind of famous and very much fanboyed after by Weird Al and Paul Reubens. Gets his first screen job in the animated short Face Like A Frog (by Sally Cruikshank), in which he sings, scores, and stars.
1975 onward: Stars in misc movies in random cameos, usually singing. Also appears on the Gong Show and wins. Attends Cal Arts, unlisted, for Balinese Dance classes, where he meets Steve Bartek who is studying Javanese music.
1980: Stars as Cab Calloway style Satan in the movie Forbidden Zone, which is directed by Rick, written (mostly) by Matthew, and has Rick's then-wife Marie-Pascale (aka Frenchy) as the main character. Writes rock music for the movie; decides he likes it.
Also 1980: Writes a piano piece, with actual sheet music. Gives up halfway.
1979: Just before Forbidden Zone hits theatres as a midnight movie, decides he "wants to start a ska band". Gets half the band together, gets some new guys, and becomes the leader of Oingo Boingo.
1980: Oingo Boingo demo EP.
1981: First actual Oingo Boingo album: Only A Lad. Huge in California. One album a year after this, until 1985.
1984: Switches Hatch out for Avila (bass) and Ribbs for Mike (piano). Feels like sh*t; wants to quit the band, but decides to keep on going after writing Dead Man's Party.
1985: Meets Tim Burton and Paul Reubens, who'd just made their first movie-- heavily influenced by Forbidden Zone. Is asked to score it; declines, but does it anyway. Is suddenly a film composer.
1985 - 1990: becomes very mainstream and kind of stagnates. Is on MTV all the time. Writes brilliant music for many many many many movies. Marries his first wife who has a daughter, Lola. Has another kid with her, names the kid Mali.
1989: Starts working on The Nightmare Before Christmas and, in 1991, Edward Scissorhands. Divorces. Meets Caroline Thompson and starts dating her.
1993: Nightmare Before Christmas. Has a nasty breakup with Tim Burton. Gives the best Halloween concert of his life. Writes Insanity.
1994: Goes through a severe midlife crisis. Lets his hair grow shoulder-length, writes a dramatic prog album, re-names his band to just Boingo, makes a stop-motion music video, fires the horn section, revives a couple of ancient songs, loses his voice, does the annual Halloween concert in a pink tutu, writes heavy metal songs and f*cks them up, cuts his hair, grows a goatee, gets his entire right leg (and part of his left arm) tattooed, breaks up with Caroline Thompson, re-hires the horn section, and decides to quit.
1995: Farewell concert. Tim Burton makes "Ed Wood" with Howard Shore and writes a poetry book.
1996 onward: Tim and Danny decide to be happy friends again; Danny becomes a full-time film composer. Scores movies for Rick and Matthew and Sam Raimi and whole lotta other people.
2002: Meets Bridget Fonda.
2004: Marries Bridget Fonda. Gets asked to do a classical piece for Carnegie Hall. Shaves.
2005: Writes the Serenada Schizophrana; is now officially a classical composer. Has a son named Oliver (from ancient German "Alfihar", meaning "Elf Army") Henry Milton Elfman. Is still happily scoring movies. Gets convinced by Tim to sing again; decides he likes it. Agrees to play Satan again in the upcoming Forbidden Zone sequel.
