Alright, this existed on the TBC forum too, but I thought we should start one up here. If you've got a theory, an Idea, a question, or what-have-you, about the movie, post it HERE and we'll discuss it.
Have fun! ;D

Well, I am ONCE AGAIN gonna repost my VxE analysis. Oy.
Yeah, Emily WAS happy at the end, and set freen in one of the most beautiful cinema moments EVER. *dies* all those butterflies.....beautiful. *HUGS Emily*
*ahem* Anyway.......I think it was the ultimate act of love on her part. She could've TOTALLY been selfish and let Victor drink it. She loved him, and wanted him for her own, and anyone else in her situation probably would've let him continue. NOT Emily. "I love you Victor, but you're not mine." She let Victoria have him, and she DEFENDED Victor during the Barkis fight. She TOTALLY loved Victor more.
As for if Victor loved her too, I totally think he did. Besides the reasons i've previously given, the scene at the piano is just too much evidence to ignore. it serves to show how well they fit together, and need i remind you of the "I LIKE your enthusiasm" line? I melt every time i hear that line.
Now, most VxV would counter with, "Oh, but he ran away from her!! He was AFRAID of her!" Well no DUH. What would you have done?! Dragged down into a world that is strange and filled with frightening-looking characters? Eventually you'd learn that they're mostly a nice bunch, but your first day there would be a nerve-wracking one. I don't blame him at all for running. I would have!
After that scene comes the Scraps scene, where Johnny does the best voice-acting job EVER. He's just so ADORABLE there!!......anyway.....What always bothers me here is how did Emily KNOW that Scraps was his? Hmm.....But it's still very sweet that she gives him to Victor. Another thing is even when Emily "catches" him, he's more worried about not knowing very much about her than anything else. "But I don't even know your name." He wasn't even overly bothered when she said, "This is your home now!"
Biggest arguement against my pairing is the whole "go to the land of the living just to see Victoria" part, cuz he tricks Emily to do it. Personally, I think it wasn't JUST to see Victoria. He just wanted out of that world at the time. AND he wanted to see Victoria....meh. ANYWHO, There are STILL signs that Victor was growing to love Emily there!! Why would a person so shy as Victor openly come out and admit such personal feelings to a person he hardly knew? I'm VERY shy, and I do not give out such things as "I was terrified of marrying you but now i really like you and i can't wait" to people i haven't known for less than a month. Why did he do it? DESPERATION. If he married Victoria, then he wouldn't have to go back to the land of the dead, and it didn't hurt that Victoria was totally sweet and beautiful (PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, I do not hate Victoria). Then comes the "I would never marry you!" line that breaks Emily's dead heart. Personally, I think Victor was just getting riled up and frazzled because of all that had happened. He would NEVER say anything that mean UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. These weren't normal circumstances. And he felt really REALLY bad that he had said it, too.
Then, and I LOVE Mayhew in this scene, comes the "How could she?" scene. Seen in a different perspective, this is one of the most convincing arguements for VxV (which, need I remind you, I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH). It's obvious that Victor's hurt that Victoria's getting married to someone else. He DOES care for Victoria, THAT is really obvious. But I REALLY THINK that he was more hurt that he won't be able to return to his life in the land above. He walks out without saying anything, and sighs quietly to himself, "It's too late."
The dropping of the flower, to me, is very symbolic of him giving up what he had and being able to make the decision to kill himself and be with Emily on his own because he WANTED to. Yes, it's possible that he felt sorry for her, and probably thought he didn't have any options left, but it was mostly because he wanted to. As I've said before, even if he was feeling sorry for himself/Emily, he didn't have to go through with it.
One last thing: HE FINISHED EMILY'S VOWS FOR HER. 'Nuff said.
WHOO-WEE, was that long! I'm done. *~
Ok peeps!! prove me wrong or add to it! ^_^

Awesome job, Squish. I agree w/ everything you said. You came up w/ some awesome points. I don't hate VxV either, I just like VxE better. One thing though...
I don't know about that. He really didn't have anything else going for him in the land above. Victoria was the only reason he wanted to go back up there. Because by that time, he didn't seem scared of the Land of the Dead anymore. What else was upstairs that he would have wanted to return to? Boring lifestyle, a fish buisness to inherit, an apparently un-caring mother, there was really nothing up there but Victoria. And once he realized that there was no hope in getting her, he felt "Well, I might as well stay with Emily since there's nothing left for me up there." I know, I'm starting to sound VxV, but I'm just stating what I think.

Mmm, true. If faced with a choice between Land of the Living and the Ball and Socket Pub, I'd choose B&S anyday.

Tonight, my campus showed The Corpse Bride at the cinema. The theatre was not too packed and the audience was good. We laughed and giggled over all the funny bits, and I felt heart-broken, once again, as the end of the movie neared. Seeing this movie again made me realise just how beautiful it is. The animation is breath-taking (or if you're dead, I guess this wouldn't count). The story, though short, is brought to life (and death) with the wonderful animation of Burton and crew. The songs, no matter how developed or lame they may be, are beautifully orchestrated by Danny Elfman. This time around, I noticed how when the camera is at Victor's point of view (as he is looking around) each spot he looks at, there is a beat of music. Emily is just angelic. There is no other word to describe her. Helena Bonham-Carter is terrific - she brings warmth and life to Emily, though the character is dead. Her selflessness at the end of the movie... wow... "You kept your promise. You set me free. Now I can do the same for you." Victor is so much like Woody Allen in character, it's not funny. He is neurotic, not-so-suave, and just a big bunch of nerves. But one cannot overlook how cute he is. Depp is the master of voices and with Victor, he creates a voice that takes on its own persona. Victor is no longer a lump of clay or silicone...he is a real person! Or at least seems so. Danny is a blast to watch as Bonejangles - though not given a lot of screentime, he tears it up the best he can. Jazzy, scat, and all that jazz - that is Mr. Bonejangles and Danny lets it shine through. Seeing ROTD on the big screen again was fun! I can see why it was nominated for an Oscar, it is wall to wall fun. The ending is perfect. I know alot of people were upset because it was too short, but it is one of the most beautiful endings I have ever seen in a film. Emily turning into butterflies was just gorgeous and wow, just wow. This film is definitely award worthy and should win for any award or catergory it is up for.
